Our current version of Dietbacs® contains 20 billion CFU (colony forming units) of various probiotic strains and 25% inulin from chicory root. With the new formulation, we add 250 mg of white mulberry leaf extract (Reducose®) to further optimize the positive effects on blood sugar levels and weight management.

Scientific Background

Reducose® is a patented extract from the leaves of the white mulberry tree that lowers the glycemic index (GI) of meals and reduces the postprandial blood sugar response by preventing the breakdown of the carbohydrates in the meal. This results in less glucose entering the body and correspondingly lower insulin rises. The undigested carbohydrates continue to travel through the intestines where they bind to receptors in the ileum and the so-called "ileal brake" is activated. This slows the motility of the upper digestive tract, reduces appetite and delays gastric emptying. Reducose reduces the peak and total insulin response by 40%.

The probiotic strains in Dietbacs® work in several ways to influence cholesterol metabolism. They promote the excretion of bile acids and reduce their concentration in the blood, causing the body to break down cholesterol to produce new bile acids. In addition, Lactobacillus plantarum CUL66 binds cholesterol in the intestine, resulting in a reduction in cholesterol levels.

Reducose® works by lowering blood sugar levels after a meal. It blocks some of the carbohydrates, which are then not digested and pass into the large intestine, where they are fermented by the gut microbiota.

Scientific Background

Fermentation of undigested carbohydrates leads to the formation of short-chain fatty acids (SCFA), which have many health benefits, such as promoting the growth of colonocytes, which may have a protective function against intestinal disorders.
