In our Immunity Guide, you will learn our seven secret tips for an internal immune boost.

Antioxidants

Antioxidants are known to reduce free radicals. What exactly are free radicals again? These are unstable oxygen compounds that lack an electron. To become complete again, they seek out molecules from which they can steal an electron. When a free radical enters the body, it "steals" the needed electron from a cell, leaving it incomplete. In science, this process is called "oxidation." Free radicals primarily trigger inflammatory reactions in cells, while antioxidants neutralize or reduce them. Ultimately, our body is constantly exposed to free radicals, which means a continuous burden for the organism. When free radicals become excessive, this process is called oxidative stress. As mentioned earlier, this can cause or promote diseases. Some antioxidants can be produced by the human body itself, while others must be obtained through food. These include secondary plant compounds, trace elements like zinc and selenium, and various vitamins!

Here is a list of foods rich in antioxidants:

  • “Traffic light colored” fruits and vegetables (spinach, carrots, tomatoes)
  • Whole grain products
  • Legumes
  • High-quality plant oils
  • Nuts

Healing Foods

There are many foods that have been proven to be beneficial for our immune system and thus our health. Here, we want to focus on garlic – because this small clove is a true miracle for our defense system! This is due to garlic’s active component – allicin. Allicin has strong antibacterial properties that can prevent diseases and infections. But that’s not all, as garlic is also credited with anti-inflammatory effects that can help your immune system function optimally. A study published in the “Journal of Immunology Research” found that allicin directly influences the number of white blood cells that fight free radicals and harmful bacteria.

Microbiome

Over 70% of your immune cells reside in your gut and on the gut walls. This also explains why a healthy gut is so important for overall well-being in our body. Digestion plays a key role in metabolizing body toxins as part of our natural detoxification system.

Cardio Is Key

According to a study in the journal “Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise,” brisk walking can increase the circulation of white blood cells in the blood. The main task of these immune cells is to eliminate potential pathogens, i.e., disease-causing agents. All forms of endurance sports boost hormone production, which in turn can positively influence the immune system!

Rest

A balanced day-night rhythm stimulates the production of cytokines – substances produced by the immune system that reduce inflammation – and also increases the production of killer cells. As their name suggests, these improve the body’s ability to fight infections!

Less Alcohol

It is now widely known that alcohol is unhealthy and negatively affects health. However, few people know that alcohol also negatively impacts the immune system. The immune system is weakened by excessive alcohol consumption because the ability to produce white blood cells decreases.
